5 Ways To Wear: The Red Skirt

One of the biggest trends every season are bright colors. The one thing about bold wardrobe pieces is that they can be hard to mix and match for different looks. Low and behold: the red bodycon / pencil skirt! For a while I would always stick to "safe" outfit combinations by pairing it with a white top and heels, but here are my 5 ideas for outfits using the same exact red skirt:

A Modern Twist On Officewear

As fashion and beauty enthusiasts, we're always on the look out to spruce up outfits and looks. Which is why I've started a new monthly series, featuring guest bloggers.

It is with great pleasure that we introduce you to one of my new favorite fashion bloggers Yulia Blower from Fashionwatching. Read on for some great advice from her about keeping office wear modern, by taking inspiration from the runway and be sure to check out her blog for more!

For a reason that I never quite understood the majority of people associate office appropriate attire with 'boring' and 'not in fashion.' I like to think the opposite. I honestly believe that the office gives you an opportunity to wear certain things that you wouldn't in your free, day to day time and allows you to be experimental with certain items. Blazers, blouses, wide leg trousers, straight leg trousers, dresses, pencil skirts, A line skirts, pleated skirts etc etc are all office friendly and are all commanding the spring/summer collections.

Next season will also allow for you to experiment with colours and fabrics as well as patterns, which all adds to the fun of dressing for the office. Mix thin leather shirts or blazers with silks for that modern contrast, throw out all past colour wheel rules and clash. Most importantly don't be afraid to try new things and know that office wear is not just grey wide leg trousers and a white cotton shirt. For inspiration, look to designers such as Armani, Hermes, Diane Von Furstenburg and Burberry who all modernize smart wear.

Burberry S/S 11. A cropped tailored jacket and skinny leg trouser suit with a splash of colour added by the waist belt. Lengthens the leg and emphasizes the figure. The look is smart and sexy, you'll get any deal you go for in this sort of outfit.

DVF S/S 11. Diane Von Furstenburg is famous for creating beautiful feminine silhouettes with her designs. A dress like this is simple, sexy and modern with that twist of material and the band of colour at the bottom.

Giorgio Armani S/S11. High waisted, loose pants, nipped in at the waist blazer and one of Spring/ Summers favorite colours, blue. Need I say more. Jazz it up with a few accessories and killer heels and you'll be killer in that important meeting.

Hermes S/S11. Sexy, sophisticated, feminine with a hint of importance. Wide leg trousers are very diverse and can be worn with different style tops, smart t-shirts, silk blouses and can even be worn with flats for comfort.

Check out the rest of the spring/summer catwalks and see if there is anything else that inspires your office wardrobe. I hope this helps you stay clear of the 'boring' connotation that usually comes with office wear.

Beshka Spring/Summer 2011 Lookbook

Bershka already featured Spring/Summer 2011 Lookbook on their website involving a summer inspired photo shoot.

As usual Bershka’s S/S 2011 Collection designed for students and with inspiration coming from different sources, namely the 50′s (think pretty polka dots, oversized sunglasses, high-waisted shorts and two-piece bathing suits) and Paris (incorporating stripes and dots in typical French colors - red and blue). The result is a French-navy look that you'll love.
For the boys, plaid shirts are the timeless piece that is trendy this spring/summer. Worn with jeans and football jackets, it gives a casual, laid-back look. The same goes for girls, as jeans are very present in this collection.

The wide-leg trouser is having a comeback, so don’t hesitate to buy a pair. Lace is still in, and so are nude colors, giving the perfect feminine combination.

Spring/Summer 2010 Trend: Hot Pants

So... For the most part, I've been able to grasp most fashion trends that resurface every few decades. Acid wash jeans, bell bottoms, big shoulder pads, grunge... all would seem like blasphemous ideas, till the masses accepted them and decided they could be made to look good.

Could the same be said for Summer 2010's trend in shorts: hot pants??
Supposed to depict a female version of me doing lunges, ha ha...-->

They've been all over runways this year, from Prada to Marc Jacobs, magazine covers and go way back to the pin up girls era, including all the sexiness it exuded.
Though I'm still on the fence about jumping on the fashion wagon with this trend, some people seem to effortlessly pull it off. Personally, I'd feel a bit too self conscious, and I can only imagine my dad's face upon seeing me walk out the door. On the plus side at least you'll save a whole lot of space if you pack these for vacation?

A few tips on How To Wear Hot Pants (with "Negative Hemlines")- without having them look like you stole your grandma's underwear:
  • Apple shaped ladies, stay far far away from the high waisted variations of this trend. High waists tend to emphasize any problem areas around the stomach ("tummy pooch").
  • Ladies: get your wax/shave/lasering on! No one wants to see hair peeking out of the bikini region or stubble.
  • This goes without saying, but your legs are going to be getting most of the attention. Keep legs looking lean and sexy by exfoliating, applying a fake tanner and moisturizing.
  • Look for a negative hemline curves up your outer thigh. Around the back, it should follow the contour of your tush.
  • Wear them with a skinny waist belt to add some flare. This will also make for less of the "I forgot my pants at home" look.
  • Wearing high (preferably) strappy heels give a slimming effect to the silhouette and make for a more sophisticated look.
  • Pair with tights to reduce the impact of baring so much flesh, and also keeping warm if you live in cooler countries.
  • Watch out for the camel toe! This is a good reason to go for looser shorts.
  • Balance out the silhouette by covering up on top. A billowy blouse, a slouchy top or a sloppy boyfriend blazer will add some sophistication.
I kind of like these runway looks

Thank god there are alternatives for those of us who prefer not to flaunt it all: boy shorts and tap pants.
Boy shorts or short shorts are somewhat like the negative hemline shorts, but bare none of your tush.
Tap pants are a loose, almost skirt like version of them, with a slightly longer hemline (no longer then 2 inches though).

Face And Outfit Of The Day

Yesterday we celebrated the bf's birthday. None of us where in the mood to get completely dressed up and spent most of the day brunching and watching The A-Team at the cinemas (highly recommend as it wasn't just an action movie, but also included alot of funny lines and shirtless guys ha ha).

At night we went to dinner with family and here's what I wore:

I bought these items back in April, so not all items will be available. The top from Forever 21 is actually a sweater like material and from the Alice In Wonderland collection.

It's so soft and probably one of my favorite wardrobe items of the moment.

The earrings are from Forever 21 and I didn't really accessorize with anything else aside from a black clutch.

I was running very late and only used liner (upper and lower) and mascara.

On my FACE I used:
-Revlon Colorstay Foundation
-Coastal Scents Camo quad (in Medium) for my under eye circles
-Benefit Moon Beam on my upper cheekbones, cupids bow, browbone and nose
-Maybeline pressed powder
-Estee Lauder brow pencil
-Anastasia Brow Wax pencil in Clear
-Mac Technakohl liner in Graphblack
-Rimmel profesional liquid liner
-NYC Moisaic powder blush
-NYX Dolly Pink lipgloss

NYX Dolly Pink is one of my favorite glosses and I'm so happy I picked it up! It's highly pigmented for a gloss and can even be layered to look darker. It's a hot pink that's very wearable, even for those - like me - who shy away from bright lips.
