ATurbulent Love Affair with Sportswear

Sportswear has never just been limited to sport. Suits are often swapped for tracksuits after a long day at work and tight jeans are sometimes swapped for sportswear just before sitting down for Sunday dinner. We dance round our living rooms in our tracksuits with our brand new Vax cleaners and dig them out of our wardrobes to do the gardening.

Given a bad name by characters like Little Britain’s Vicky Pollard in her offensive bright pink tracksuit top and blue bottoms, we tend to avoid actually leaving the house in sportswear, lest we run into a friend or colleague resulting in an embarrassing display of our lazy-wear.

However, with the arrival of the London 2012 Olympics, sport is on everyone’s minds. This is, of course, reflected in fashion: dressing down is on the up and it seems sportswear will be back in a big way. Now, more than ever before, big fashion names are collaborating with sportswear brands: Stella McCartney has designed Team GB’s London 2012 kit, for instance.

Adidas, the official sportswear of the London Olympics and the British team, has recruited pop star Katy Perry to be the new face of their sportswear range. The U.S. pop queen who bares her midriff as she dances with a troupe of female backing dancers, proves that sportswear can be sexy. In addition, British TV presenter and model Alexa Chung currently stars in Italian trainer brand Superga’s summer campaign.

Many designers’ collections are heavily influenced by sport, a trend that looks set to continue as the latest rounds of collections appear. Sportswear has officially been swiped from the running track and relocated to the catwalk, which renders former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham’s confession that she loves fashion too much to wear a tracksuit somewhat meaningless.

If sportswear is becoming a more acceptable form of attire, should employers allow tracksuits in the workplace? ‘Casual Fridays’ are growing in popularity as employers recognise the benefits they can bring to the business. Giving employees a day to express their individuality is an effective motivator and does not cost employers a penny.

In turn, employees feel more appreciated and more relaxed. This not only improves employee morale but also increases worker productivity – which typically wanes towards the end of the week.

Look For Less: Stuart Weitzman Alex Espadrille Wedges

I am a huge fan of Jennifer Aniston's style. She always looks so classy, elegant and sexy as she dabbles in trends ever so often. It's highly unlikely anything she wears will ever end up on a "What not to wear" list. And what's even better, is that her her fashion picks never seem to go out of style.

Last summer Jen started rocking a pair of Stuart Weitzman espadrilles, which sold out so fast they became impossible to find. They've been restocked on Zappo's (retail price $375). This style just screams spring and summer! It's so gorgeous, yet way over the price-range I had in mind for a wedge.

I'd been searching for a pair of brown wedges when I came across these - so I ordered these. (Check out the pictures of Jennifer Aniston below to see why I couldn't resist! It can be work with so many outfits.)
I'm much happier with this color, because it's lighter than my original brown choice of wedges- making it perfect for spring!

Hot Valentine's Day Heels

Valentine's day is coming up in 2 weeks and there's just something about it that gets me riled up with excitement. Now, normally I really dislike going to restaurants, because they're so crowded on V-day, but I do love getting dolled up and looking sassy - if I have a date.

If I'm dateless I still make it a point to pamper myself. And I'm not alone: I remember someone Tweeted recently that she buys herself a gift each day for the two weeks leading up to V-day.

Here are some of th hottest shoes and stilleto's that'll have you looking smoking hot for Valentine's day:

Luichiny : April Lou - Red Satin $84.99

(also available in more colors)

(also available in black)

Steve Madden : Fifi - Pink Fabric $99.99

Hot Fall Trend: Over The Knee Boots

Gahhh! Unfortunately I don't live anywhere where the seasons change or NYC, so I don't get to look forward enjoying Fall/Winter, and more specifiably all the fashions it brings along with it.

Even though I'd look silly wearing boots somewhere during tropical climates, I'm madly in love with leathery looking (cuffed of slouchy) over the knee boots. I blame the Kardashians for looking so freakin cute in them.

There's so many ways to style them, you can get one pair and just wear them all season long! Thigh high boots where in fashion last autumn too, but this year their slightly chunkier, which is great if you want to be able to walk all day in them or avoid slip and falls during the winter months:

Sexy and classy with thigh bearing dress

Feminine and posh with a coat

Edgy with distressed skinnies and leather jacket

Casual yet trendy with a scarf and jeans

With a cropped blazer and jeggings

ALDO Shoe Sizing.. My Lovely Blog Reader- HELP?

I usually don't post questions but this is a "fashion emergency"!
Do Aldo shoes run true to size or smaller like I've seen posted all over the internet?
I went to an Aldo store today and from what I recall, I fit into a regular size US 7 (or 37). But it depends on the style. They didn't have much stock, so I wasn't able to try on the pair I wanted - and shall be ordering them online.

Leave comments below. Your help is GREATLY appreciated. :)

(FYI: I wear a 7 in Nine West shoes, and 7.5 in Bakers)

Summer 2010 Hot Trend: Jelly Sandals

A hot new trend (or re vamped version of it) for Summer 2010 that's been popping up all over runways and in stores is the Jellies/Jelly sandals. A few years back when Jelly gladiators came out, I refused to even give them a second look. Something about them just screamed out "9 year old's footwear" to me.
Now I'm seeing them in a whole new light. A friend of mine showcased her new pair and they actually looked 10x better then I would imagine rubber sandals being able to look and... dare I say even sophisticated?

Here are my favorite styles below:

The Look For Less: Cynthia Vincent Luella Wedge

As soon as these shoes where seen on Vanessa Hudgens, they sold out in stores everywhere!
Personally, I think these shoes are hot (lovin' the zipper detail down the middle as well as the gladiator style) and are available at Singer22 and Shopbop.
3/19/2011 UPDATE: You can buy these at Shopbop on sale marked down from $410 to $276.50

They remind me alot of the Nine West "Heech" I bought last year which took the blog fashion world by storm.

GET THE LOOK FOR LESS:

The Bakers.com version is by Jessica Simpson for about 1/4th of the price. Just like the Cynthia Vincent wegde, it's also available in black.

Hot trend for Winter 2009: Knee High Boots

This season boots are back, preferably thigh high.
Here are my top picks from Target for cheap winter boots that that look chic too:

The bad news is that these are on sale and only available in selected sizes so hurry!
The third pair reminds me of the boots Kim Kardashian was seen wearing some time back while pumping gas and shopping in Hollywood.

Walking in high heels

I came across an extremely usefull article I think every woman should read (well, all of us who have shoe fetish). It explains everything from walking in heels, to possible long term problems ocurring when not done properly.

Some important tidbits I thought needed to be shared:
  • Stilettos require constant balance from the upper leg, causing the muscles of
the backside to tense and appear pert and ready for mating...
  • To walk gracefully in high heels, take short steps, as opposed to long strides, and come down in a heel-toe, heel-toe motion, with most of the weight distributed on the ball of the foot...

On six inch heels (but also regular heel wearers):
I wanted to hear from you guys: do you wear heels on a daily basis? Or only sometimes?
If so when? How high are your heels usually? Feel free to share your point of view.

I'll wear 4 inch heels. Not higher. I can't walk very long in them either to be honest but I love how they instantly spice up a simple outfit. Even if they are 3 inch heels. I'm also avoiding the THIN stilleto's ever since I almost fell on them. But everyday I'm usually wearing flats/sandals.
  • If the ball of the foot does not touch the floor, then the heels are too
high for the foot and must not be worn standing up. If all the weight is on the
toes only, severe damage will be caused that could need surgery to be corrected.
To be able to walk in heels this high, it's probably necessary to be an imperial
    (British) size seven or above...
  • Walking in six-inch heels is very different to walking in two-inch, or even four-inch heels, so be very careful and don't rush...
  • Under no circumstances drive a car with your heels on. Not only do you have less control over the car, but it will damage your shoes - and they aren't cheap at this height. Keep spare shoes in the car for driving, or have someone drive you.
  • Wearing extremely high heels can damage the feet, especially if the toes are pointed, or the shoes are too tight. Damage can sometimes be so extreme that the sufferer can never wear any high heel ever again.
  • Standing for long periods of time in high heels can cause deep vein thrombosis (DVT), although standing even in low heels carries this risk. This is a condition in which blood clots form in deep veins, mainly in the legs. DVT has also been linked to sitting for long periods of time, especially when there is not much room to move the legs. Any movement of the legs can help to prevent this.
